Traditions
Making pancakes. From the very first day of Maslenitsa, preparations begin for the main dish of the holiday - pancakes. Pancakes symbolize the sun, warmth and spring. It is believed that the more pancakes are cooked and eaten, the more luck there will be in the new season.

Meeting with family and friends. People gather with family and friends to celebrate the beginning of Maslenitsa. This is a time for communication, joy and fun.

Holiday rituals
In some regions, Maslenitsa festivities with songs and dances begin. Games, competitions and sleigh rides can be organized on the street. Traditionally, there are usually no mass celebrations on the first day of the holiday, but family feasts can take place.

The first day of Maslenitsa also has a spiritual meaning. During this period, Orthodox Christians prepare for Lent, so it is important to ask forgiveness from loved ones and begin to cleanse the soul.
